Theory of Semantic

POLITENESS THEORY-BROWN AND LEVINSON (1987) Politeness is one of theory that used in semantics. The study of politeness strategy is basically the study of knowing the way the people use the language while they are having interaction or communication. It preaches how to use the language and conduct the conversation run well and go smoothly. In case of communication, however, everyone wants to be understood and not to be disturbed by others; moreover, he or she does not want to loose his face while communicating. Loosing face means the notions of being embarrassed, humiliated or disappointed. That is why face is something that is emotionally invested, maintained, enhanced and constantly attended in an interaction. Concept of face Face means respect, self-esteem, self-image in the community, Brown and Levinson say that society is governed by two desires: to be free from imposition, and to be appreciated and approved of. Definition of Semantic

Semantic is known as meaning of the word. Semantic also define as the branch of linguistics and logic concerned with meaning. According to Katz (1972 : 1), He wrote that “Semantics is the study of linguistic meaning. It is concered with what sentence and other linguistics object express, not with the arrangement with their syntactic parts or with their pronounciation.” The word meaning can be defined in many ways, but the definition most pertinent to linguistics and the one we will use is that meaning is "the function of signs in language."  Thus, semantic is important for our life especially in linguistic and i choose that because  I like to interpret a person's words.

THE POWER OF SYNTAX

Definition of Syntax Syntax is the grammatical structure of sentences. The format in which words and phrases are arranged to create sentences is called syntax. Sentence Structure Examples Fundamentally, syntax is about structure. The rules of syntax exist to make sentences clear and consistent. There are a variety of common syntactical mistakes, and all are easy to fix once a writer knows what they're doing wrong. For instance: Incorrect : While watching a movie, people who text on their phone are very annoying. Correct : People who text on their phone while watching a movie are very annoying. Or… Incorrect : Happy about her upcoming promotion, the trip home was full of singing. Correct : Happy about her upcoming promotion, Sammie sang all the way home.
